San Francisco

San Francisco, located in the southern part of northern California, has not only the hustle and bustle of big cities but also the calm serenity of small town living. Here you can go to the Embarcadero, walk to Pier 39 and see hundreds of sea lions sleeping and yelping at the tourists, eat some of the finest food in the country, take a trolly ride and do some excellent shopping. San Francisco streets, many of which are steep inclines afford you stairs with which to climb them, can you even imagine? Lombard Street is known as the most crooked street in the world. Fine shopping can be had in many areas of San Francisco. Great food and sights abound here. Feel like some great chocolate, visit Ghiradelli Square for not only Ghiradelli chocolate but some of the best food in San Francisco. Visit the Aquarium, Alcatraz, or take a ferry ride over to Sausalito. There is always something to do in San Francisco. Like many large cities in the US, San Francisco has a Japantown and Chinatown; both are among the largest and oldest in the US. It also boasts a budding Vietnamese community in the Tenderloin neighborhood, Filipinos in Crocker Amazon and South of Market, an Italian community in North Beach, a French Quarter, an Irish and Russian community in the Richmond District. The predominantly Hispanic Mission District is the oldest neighborhood, as it was the site of Mission Dolores which was established in 1776. Haight-Ashbury gained prominence during the 1960s for its prominent concentration of hippies during the "Summer of Love." The Castro neigborhood has the world's highest concentration of homosexuals. The City's African American population is concentrated in the southeastern Bayview and Hunters Point neighborhoods. The Richmond, on the west side of the city and North of Golden Gate Park, is predominantly Asian. As you can see, San Francisco is as diverse in attractions as it is in inhabitants. You will not be disappointed if you choose San Francisco as your next vacation destination.
